The end of first semester!

As first semester is coming to a close I am getting more and more anxious for what awaits me in the semesters to follow. Clinical is going to be a great new adventure with all different types of things to learn. It will not only be a learning experience but an experience that I will ever forget. It will be my first experience in the hospital setting and I am ready and prepared to take full advantage of this opportunity. I know have the knowledge, skill, and judgement to correctly take vitals, document, make beds, perform head to toe assessments, bath, carry out mouth care, transfer, and feed patients.

What type of nurse will I become?

As of now I’m not sure what the future holds for me as a nurse or which road I will choose in the end. The only thing I can do now is imagine myself in the different nursing fields. Will I be a nurse that works in paediatrics? A paediatric nurse is a nurse that loves children and protects them in their first stages of life. Will I be an emergency nurse? An emergency nurse loves to be on top of her feet and on the go 24/7 in the middle of all the medical emergencies. Will I be a geriatrics nurse? A geriatrics nurse is a nurse that is concerned about diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases within older adults. Will I be a palliative nurse? A palliative nurse is a nurse that tends to the relieving or soothing of the symptoms of a disease or disorder. Who knows where these four years will lead me, but I cannot wait to find out!

Why I chose nursing?

When searching for my future profession I found that there were certain qualities I wanted my profession to possess. These qualities included the following I wanted a job with diversity, that was challenging, purposeful, meaningful, gave me different opportunities in the future and job security. The nursing profession acquires all the qualities I was looking for. The caring aspected of nursing gives the profession significance and reason, the skill makes nursing demanding and intriguing, the different fields of nursing gives nurses opinions and the nursing demands gives a sense of job security. After the realization of this nursing was and forever will be embedded in my heart.

Below I have attached a video of why you should become a nurse!
